White water rafting goes gourmet

PLACERVILLE, CA - Adventure seekers are finding out they get more than rapids and thrills when they book a white water rafting trip along the American River.

"All the outfitters do a great job with their food," said Bryan Schwartz, who runs Wilderness Adventures, one of more than 50 white water adventure companies in the area.

"We take down a full kitchen. We put all that stuff in a boat and we get somebody to row 1,000 pounds down the river."

With menus that include Tri-tip, Salmon, dutch oven baked lasagna and some of the best fresh produce in Northern California, most of these local companies work hard at making sure their guests have the ultimate experience both in and out of the water.

"Even on a one or two day trip when you're in camp and you're being served, everything's taken care of for you," said Stephen Liles of W.E.T. River Trips. "You feel like you're at a five-star resort or you're on a cruise because you don't have to do anything expect go down the river and relax."
